WORKING AS A PROCUREMENT ENGINEER IN A STARTUP COMPANY?

What on earth is a construction startup?

There are many ideas about what a startup company means, but a key feature is the pursuit of rapid growth. Pursuing rapid growth requires a good idea and even a bit of luck. At Kospro Oy, we focus on three core competencies: targeted marketing/sales, the quality of our product and its continuous development, and knowing the market/industry. However, the core of our company is always the customer, understanding their needs, and working together to achieve results.

A construction procurement consultancy startup is rare, at least in the construction industry. Consultancy services are often confused with traditional consulting services. Kospro Oy develops clients' procurement processes while working at the same level alongside clients. In addition to creating and developing procurement strategies, we also make procurements with the client. It is essential for Kospro Oy to be part of the client's team, and we are often seen as the client's own employee.

Most people interested in construction procurement are likely to find employment with construction companies of various sizes.

Our procurement engineer Lauri began his career in-house at a construction company. Here is how he describes the difference between in-house procurement and his current duties based on his experiences:

"I started my career in procurement tasks at a construction company. When I started at Kospro, I immediately noticed differences in the job role. My tasks at Kospro have been significantly more diverse than when I worked at the construction company. I have only been at Kospro for just over three months, and in this time I have already been involved in various projects of different organizations, from preliminary calculations for substations to new construction and renovation projects in the residential construction sector. Different clients and projects constantly teach new things, and I feel that I am continuously developing in my current role."

"In addition, working in such a small startup company allows for skill development outside of procurement. I have had the opportunity to participate in marketing communication planning, as well as to help develop not only the procurement process but the overall company operations, which is something that might not be possible in most construction companies. At Kospro, skills are appreciated and ideas are listened to, even if you are a new employee."

"Furthermore, Kospro is a flexible company where you can work in different locations and unnecessary work is minimized. Responsibility is given to employees, but help is always close by if needed. I can strongly recommend Kospro Oy as an employer, and I feel that those interested in procurement in the construction field should consider Kospro as an employer alternative to construction companies, if taking responsibility, broad development, and flexible working methods are of interest."
