A TYPICAL WORKDAY AT KOSPRO

02/05/2021

We challenged our procurement engineer, Lauri Söderholm, to tell us what his workday entails.

"It is difficult to describe a typical workday, as each day is different. Typically, I arrive at the office around 8 AM. I grab a coffee from the coffee machine and a soda from the fridge. Next, I go through my emails and prioritize any urgent matters and problems that have arisen. After this, I often move to quiet collaboration spaces where I am better able to focus on tasks that require writing and concentration, such as compiling bid comparisons and requests for quotations. Throughout the day, I am also constantly in contact with various contractors and suppliers regarding procurement."

"The job involves significant tasks for different clients and projects within the same day. We have excellent auxiliary tools that show weekly tasks for different projects and allow us to measure the time spent on different projects."

"At Kospro, ideas are genuinely listened to, and in many cases, they can be further developed and integrated into the operating procedures."

"Currently, my main project is the construction of two residential apartment buildings, in addition to making individual or smaller purchases for other projects. Besides practical procurement, I need to stay up to date with the overall schedule of different projects and ensure that the procurements progress as planned. This is achieved through continuous communication with customers and through various plans and schedules."

"I usually have lunch around 11 o'clock at a nearby lunch restaurant. If there are scheduled meetings in the afternoon, I prepare for them and draft a memo to guide the discussions. Recently, most meetings have been held remotely via Teams, but in-person meetings are becoming more common again as the pandemic eases. In-person meetings involve visiting the client's office or construction site for discussions. Once agreements are reached in the meetings, it's time to draft a contract for the work/delivery, which is also part of my job responsibilities."

"In addition to basic job tasks, at Kospro you also get to be involved in the continuous development of processes and operations. Ideas are truly listened to at Kospro, and in many cases, you get to refine them further and integrate them into the working method."

"For example, I had heard about a specific enterprise resource planning/scheduling program before joining the company and suggested it when we were looking for new options. I was free to explore the program's features and later demonstrated its functionalities to others. We decided to adopt the program and now use it daily. Additionally, at Kospro, you can also engage in tasks outside of your main job based on your interests/skills. I have personally been involved in planning and reviewing the company's marketing communication and financing."

"The working methods at Kospro are very flexible. In addition to the office, you can work in various shared spaces available in the startup village. It is also possible to work remotely after gaining the necessary training and experience."

"Overall, my working days at Kospro are really diverse and educational. Managing multiple projects simultaneously takes some getting used to, but it also provides an excellent opportunity for professional development. Development at Kospro is not limited to procurement alone; you can participate in other tasks based on your skills and interests."
